2020 12 Crafting for a Cause
COVID-19 didn’t stop young people from developing projects to make our community a better place for all, but volunteering during COVID came with its challenges.
The need for hands-on volunteer opportunities became even stronger during the pandemic. If we couldn’t gather, how would we go about providing hands-on volunteering to our members? How could we ensure safety and follow COVID-19 protocols?
The Crafting for a Cause project helped meet those needs. Volunteers were sent crafting kits for jewelry making, tie-dying and other activities to create items that we would sell online and at in-person farmers markets.
In addition to flexing their creative muscles - volunteers were able to set the price for their materials, manage inventory sheets, set up booths, strengthen their customer service skills, and design descriptions for their crafts.
We’ve raised money for Links2Care, Darling Home for Kids, Bridging the Gap, Silent Voice, and ROCK (Reach Out Centre for Kids). Over the course of the fundraisers, we’ve raised over $3000.
Special thank you to Alex Hilson from the Acton Farmers Market for his ongoing support of our Crafting for a Cause campaign and for setting us up with a booth to sell our goods many times over the past 2 years!
