The first ever Halton Youth Equity Summit took place on Saturday November 6 from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm. It was such an exceptionally marvelous and congenial experience and everyone loved it!
At the summit, we had a lot of fun listening to the engaging presentations provided by the Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Board. Then, we worked in smaller groups or individually to brainstorm ways we can promote equality and dismantle discrimination with inspiration and ideas from community organizations.
The energy in the summit was superb. Everyone was so passionate and engaged there was always someone who would raise their hand and ask questions. The agenda was full and but there was always time and space provided for everyone to be kind and respectful.
As a participant and a volunteer in the summit, I absolutely adored it. I never thought I would sit through any five-hour event, but this summit proved me wrong! Lily Viggiano, Amber Siddiqui, Arianna Chua, and the rest of the wonderful Equity Team here at the HYI are the ones to thank! They put hours upon hours of tireless effort into planning the summit. We are also extremely grateful to all the participants and community organizations who put forward their expertise.
This was the best summit ever!
