Milton - Why I Joined the Milton Youth Action Team

When I first heard about the Milton Youth Action Team (MYAT), I was ecstatic. This volunteering opportunity sounded like everything I was searching for: a small team of youth working alongside adult mentors on resolving issues that youth face, planning community events, and working on projects that are important to us. It is a chance for youth to have a voice and act on it.

Shortly after reading all about why I certainly had to join and signing up, I received an email from Lily, MYAT's kind and outgoing leader. Our team was quickly formed, and it was clear that I wasn't the only one excited about being a part of the organization. I got to meet a group of individuals who are just as enthusiastic as I am. We got to know each other, and by the second week, we were already starting to separate into smaller groups to divide and conquer our tasks. Our team worked and connected well, making tasks much more efficient and engaging. We always start our weekly meeting by catching up with one another and taking part in an ice breaker.

I joined the Milton Youth Action Team thinking that it would be a great volunteer opportunity, and I am lucky to say that it has been even better than I imagined. I have gotten to meet an incredible team of people that I wouldn't have met otherwise, partner with adults who work for the town of Milton that have so much still to teach us and got to be a part of a wonderful project!
